735 Telangana doctors lose Rs 29.88 crore to cyber frauds since September 2024

Cyber fraudsters in Hyderabad and across Telangana have targeted 735 doctors, swindling them of nearly Rs 30 crore since September 2024, according to the Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB).
The bureau released these figures on June 17, 2026, sounding a sharp alarm over the rising number of medical professionals falling victim to sophisticated online scams. Over the past two years, cybercriminals have increasingly focused their efforts on members of the medical community.
According to TGCSB officials, the total financial loss incurred by the 735 victimized doctors stands at Rs 29.88 crore. Among the various fraudulent methods employed by the cybercriminals, investment and business-related scams caused the highest financial damage. These specific investment-related frauds accounted for over Rs 22 crore of the total losses.
In addition to investment scams, doctors in the state were targeted through digital arrest scams, identity theft, impersonation frauds, and misleading online advertisements. The TGCSB also recorded numerous cases involving job scams, cryptocurrency frauds, UPI frauds, loan frauds, and sextortion.
TGCSB Director Shikha Goel cautioned that professional qualifications or social standing do not shield individuals from cybercrime. She urged healthcare professionals across Telangana to remain highly vigilant when dealing with unsolicited calls, messages, and online investment offers.
Bureau officials emphasized that prompt action is essential when a fraud occurs. Reporting the crime during the critical first few hours after the incident can significantly improve the chances of freezing transactions and recovering the stolen funds.
To combat these crimes and minimize losses, the TGCSB has urged all victims of cyber financial fraud to report their incidents immediately. Affected individuals can reach out through the national helpline number 1930 or file a report via the official cybercrime reporting portal.
