Advocate M Sridhar Dayal Urges Telangana Police to Frame SOPs Against Property Mafia

A Hyderabad-based advocate, M Sridhar Dayal, has urged the Telangana Police to formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to handle property disputes involving organized mafias, highlighting a recent violent incident at his own flat in Masab Tank, Hyderabad.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Sridhar Dayal stated that an organized land mafia is actively targeting property owners in the city. He explained that these groups systematically rent properties, including flats, independent houses, and plots, and subsequently refuse to vacate them.
According to the advocate, the mafia operates by occupying these premises and refusing to leave until they extort large sums of money from the rightful property owners. He alleged that the police frequently fail to assist the owners, routinely dismissing these organized occupations as mere civil disputes.
Sridhar Dayal shared his own recent experience to illustrate the severity of the issue. He owned a flat in Masab Tank that had been rented out. He claimed that the tenants eventually vacated the property only after he paid them a sum of money.
However, the situation escalated later that same evening. Sridhar Dayal alleged that the individuals returned to the flat, broke open the lock on the door, and attempted to forcefully take back possession of the property with the assistance of local rowdy elements. During the confrontation, the antisocial elements allegedly attacked and injured the apartment's watchman.
Despite the forced entry and the physical assault on the watchman, Sridhar Dayal stated that the local police refused to register a criminal case. He noted that the police once again cited the incident as a civil matter, leaving him without immediate legal recourse.
The advocate demanded that the Telangana Police study these recurring patterns of property occupation and establish formal SOPs. He emphasized that such guidelines are necessary to prevent the harassment of innocent citizens who purchase properties with their hard-earned money, ensuring they are protected from organized mafia activities.
