BDA to open 10.3km cycling track on Magadi Road-Mysuru Road corridor

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is currently constructing a new 10.3 km dedicated bicycle track along the Major Arterial Road connecting Magadi Road and Mysuru Road in Bengaluru. This infrastructure project, which aims to provide a safer and more reliable transit option for the city's cyclists, is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on June 27. The opening ceremony will take place during the upcoming Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations.
The new bicycle track is being developed along the service road of the new 11 km Major Arterial Road (MAR) corridor, which is currently under construction. According to BDA officials, the dedicated bicycle lane will stretch across nearly the entire 11 km corridor. The only portion of the route that will not feature the dedicated lane is the underpass stretch.
At present, the road construction works for the Major Arterial Road project have entered their final phase and are in an advanced stage of completion. BDA officials stated that several key finishing works are currently under way along the route. These ongoing tasks include the installation of road signages, the application of lane markings, and the painting of underpasses.
The creation of this corridor comes as a highly anticipated development for the Bengaluru cycling community, which has seen a steady reduction in dedicated cycling infrastructure over the past several years. Much of the city's previously existing cycling infrastructure had reduced following the construction of the Metro transit network along several of Bengaluru's major corridors.
By building this new 10.3 km track, the Bangalore Development Authority hopes to address safety concerns and support the local cycling community. BDA officials stated that the completed Magadi Road-Mysuru Road corridor will offer a safer cycling option and significantly improve the dedicated infrastructure available to cyclists in the city.
