Bengaluru Water Authority Fines 44 Violators Rs 2.2 Lakh For Wasting Drinking Water

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has penalized 44 individuals and collected a total of Rs 2.2 lakh in spot fines for wasting drinking water in Bengaluru. The civic action was taken as part of an ongoing crackdown to curb the misuse of potable water and conserve resources during the summer.
According to the water authority, the spot fines were collected from the 44 violators between March 1 and May 8. The board stepped up its enforcement measures and conducted water wastage checks across the city to identify individuals violating the conservation guidelines.
Under the BWSSB's water conservation regulations, a penalty of Rs 5,000 per violation was imposed on each offender. The regulations specifically prohibit residents from using treated drinking water for non-essential activities. These restricted activities include washing vehicles and gardening.
The enforcement drive comes as the water authority intensifies its efforts to preserve drinking water supplies during the dry season. The collected fines of Rs 2.2 lakh are intended to serve as a deterrent against the wastage of potable water in Bengaluru.
