An under-construction public toilet valued at Rs 2.3 crore was demolished by Cidco near Utsav Chowk in Kharghar on Tuesday. The demolition was carried out because the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) allegedly encroached upon land owned by Cidco.

According to reports, the PCMC did not obtain a required no-objection certificate from Cidco before starting the construction. Despite the lack of official permission, the civic body went ahead with the project, and most of the structural work of the toilet had already been completed by the time the demolition occurred.

The construction of the public toilet was originally initiated following a demand from a former corporator. The PCMC approved her demand and began the construction process. However, the civic administration allegedly started the work without checking the ownership of the land on which they were building.

Following the demolition on Tuesday, a current corporator has raised concerns over the incident and demanded strict action against the officials responsible. The corporator called the demolition a major loss and demanded accountability for the wasteful expenditure of the civic body's public funds.
