Senior Congress leader and All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Suraj Hegde passed away in Bengaluru late Sunday night after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was around 55 years old.

According to party sources, Hegde passed away at a private hospital in the city.

At the time of his death, Hegde was serving as the vice chairman of the Karnataka government's Guarantee Committee.

Hegde was a prominent Congress functionary who held key positions within the party organization. He had previously served as the national in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress.

In addition to his political career, Hegde belonged to a prominent political family in the state. He was the grandson of the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Devaraj Urs.
