Currey Road woman dies by suicide on Mumbai railway tracks over knee pain

A 56-year-old woman died by suicide on the railway tracks between the Parel and Currey Road stations in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Anandi Veer, was a resident of the Currey Road locality who took her own life after struggling with a painful and severe knee ailment.
The incident came to light at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday when the Currey Road station master noticed that a woman had been hit by a train on the tracks running between the Currey Road and Parel stations. The station master immediately informed the Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) chowky about the accident.
Responding to the alert, emergency personnel rushed to the scene. Veer had suffered severe physical injuries from the train impact but was still alive. She was quickly transported to Sion Hospital to receive emergency medical care. However, her injuries proved fatal, and she succumbed during treatment at around 3:10 p.m.
During their initial investigation, police officers discovered that Veer had written a message on her own body before the incident. She had penned a suicide note directly onto her left arm. The note read: "I'm fed up of my life and I'm ending it on my own accord. My family is not responsible for it."
According to the GRP, Veer lived with her family in the Currey Road neighborhood. Her family members confirmed to the police that she had been suffering from a persistent knee ailment that caused her severe and continuous physical pain, which ultimately led to her decision.
The Dadar GRP has officially registered an accidental death case regarding the incident. Following the completion of a post-mortem examination at Sion Hospital, Veer's body was handed back to her family members to conduct her final rites.
