A devastating fire at a bed-and-breakfast in Malviya Nagar, located near Max Hospital Saket in South Delhi, has claimed the lives of 22 people. Among the deceased was a 44-year-old businessman who had traveled from Dhaka to support his brother-in-law during a scheduled kidney transplant.

The victim, Md Nurul Amin, was a transport businessman. He had arrived in Delhi on June 2 alongside his younger sister, Rahana Akhtar, 38, and her husband, Mosharaf Hossain, 44, who was slated to undergo the transplant procedure at the nearby hospital. Hossain's sister Zohra, who was the kidney donor, and Zohra's daughter also accompanied them on the trip.

According to Amin's brother-in-law, Md Robiul, 33, the family stayed at the Delhi airport after landing on June 2. The next day, they visited a cafe located on the first floor of the Flourish Stays B&B building for a meal before they were scheduled to go to the hospital.

It was during this time that a fire broke out in the building. While Amin was among the 22 people who died in the blaze, Hossain, Akhtar, Zohra, and her daughter sustained injuries but survived.

Robiul, who traveled to Delhi to identify the body, waited at the AIIMS mortuary for the completion of post-mortem formalities. He noted that Amin had only joined the trip to help his sister care for Hossain during his medical treatment.

"He didn’t have to come. He only came because he wanted to help his sister take care of Hossain during the treatment," Robiul said. He added that embassy officials informed him the family was eating when the fire broke out. Because they were on the first floor, the others managed to escape, but Amin could not.

Amin is survived by his wife and three children in Dhaka. His family members were unable to travel to India because Robiul was the only one who held a valid visa.
