Director Accuses Varalaxmi Sarathkumar of Non-Cooperation on Police Complaint

HYDERABAD — Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar became the center of twin controversies in Tollywood on June 10, 2026, following public allegations of non-cooperation by the director of her upcoming film 'Police Complaint' and a script dispute with writer Sai Madhav Burra.
During a press meet for 'Police Complaint' held in Hyderabad, the film's director openly complained that the actress was not extending her cooperation to the production team. He alleged that Varalaxmi had signed a contract for a remuneration of Rs 75 lakh, with her daily staff expenses covering up to Rs 50,000.
According to the director, the actress had agreed to attend promotional events for the movie but only provided 40 minutes of her time. He claimed she skipped the remaining promotional commitments and remained uncooperative throughout the campaign.
Furthermore, the director stated that the dubbing for 'Police Complaint' was delayed because Varalaxmi intentionally avoided the work. He alleged that she bypassed her dubbing duties under the pretext of completing her own directorial project.
At the same time, Varalaxmi attracted separate controversy during the promotions of her directorial debut, 'S Saraswathi'. Writer Sai Madhav Burra, who reportedly provided the story for the film, publicly accused the production team of making unauthorized alterations.
In a public tweet, Burra openly stated that the film's team had ruined his story by making changes and spoiling it totally. The issue garnered significant attention from the public and members of the film industry.
Varalaxmi later defended herself against Burra's claims, attempting to put an end to the controversy without dragging it further.
Varalaxmi, who originally established her career as a Tamil actor, has rose to fame in the Telugu film industry, where she became popular among Telugu audiences.
