The Gurgaon Police registered a criminal case at the DLF Phase 2 Police Station against stand-up comedian Pranit More and web developer Himanshu Jangra over controversial remarks made during a comedy show in Gurgaon. The case, reported on June 17, 2026, follows a viral video of the "Rs 370 biryani" incident that allegedly glorified sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the duo for several offences. These include publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form, the distribution and circulation of digital content, making statements conducing to public mischief, and sexual harassment through sexually coloured remarks.

The police action comes after the National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of the viral video on June 11. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote to the Haryana Director General of Police to request an Action Taken Report within seven days. The NCW has also scheduled a formal hearing regarding the matter for June 22.

"Legal notices have been issued to them to join the investigation, and further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law," a Gurgaon Police spokesperson said.

In addition to the FIR, Gurgaon Police have dispatched formal legal requests to relevant social media platforms. The requests seek the immediate removal of the controversial video content to prevent its further circulation online.

The row began after a video clip from a comedy show in Gurgaon surfaced online. In the footage, Jangra recounted a date during which he spent Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani. He stated that when the woman subsequently asked him to be dropped home, he sought sexual favours in return for the money spent. More, who was hosting the show, was filmed laughing at and validating Jangra's remarks.

Following intense public backlash, both More and Jangra issued public apologies. Jangra subsequently deactivated his Instagram account and was fired from his job by a Gurgaon-based firm.

Under the directives of the Commissioner of Police, local authorities are thoroughly investigating the case. Officials stressed that any activity violating the dignity and honour of women will face strict legal enforcement.
