On Friday, June 12, 2026, Hydraa Commissioner AV Ranganath directed Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams to remain prepared for urban flooding during the monsoon season. The Commissioner issued these directives during an interaction with the DRF teams at Budha Bhavan in Hyderabad.

The main objective of the preparation measures is to ensure that the city does not once again experience the intense flooding witnessed during the recent rains. To manage the situation effectively, officials have successfully identified and mapped 913 flood-prone locations within the limits of the three commissionerates.

Out of these 913 mapped locations, 257 have been categorized as major areas of concern. The Commissioner instructed the DRF teams to remain ready at these specific locations to prevent and mitigate flood-related disruptions.

Currently, there are 51 DRF teams available. To reinforce these existing teams, Ranganath stated that MET teams and static teams will also be deployed across the city soon.

To foster community involvement, Ranganath suggested forming local committees in critical waterlogging zones. These committees will encourage local residents to help officials identify workable solutions to the flooding issues in their respective areas.

Furthermore, the Commissioner directed officials to put clear markings on nearby walls to indicate the locations of manholes, ensuring safety during times of heavy water accumulation.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the preventive measures are crucial as even a single day of traffic disruption in the city could lead to massive economic losses of up to Rs 400 crore.
