Inaugural TG20 League to Begin on June 21 with Vijay Deverakonda as Brand Ambassador

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has announced that the inaugural TG20 League cricket tournament will commence on June 21, 2026, with the opening ceremony scheduled to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Uppal. Film star Vijay Deverakonda has been named as the brand ambassador for the 21-day tournament, which will feature eight franchises competing across 32 matches.
Speaking on Tuesday, HCA Secretary M Jeevan Reddy confirmed that the championship will be held on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, unlike the IPL, the TG20 League will not feature the "Impact Player" rule. Sreenidhi University has signed on as the title sponsor, while GMR and Telangana Tourism will serve as the co-sponsors for the league.
According to Agam Rao, the chairman of the TG20 Governing Council, the tournament will run until July 12, 2026, when the final is scheduled to be played. Most days of the tournament will feature double-header matches, with the first game starting at 2:15 PM and the second at 7:30 PM. All matches will be broadcast live on the JioStar network.
The tournament has received official approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is reflected in the participation of prominent national players. Mr. Rao noted that having big names like Tilak Varma and Mohd Siraj playing in the TG20 serves as proof of the BCCI's approval. He added that the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit teams will be fully operational throughout the duration of the league.
The inaugural match on June 21 will see the Palauru Strikers face off against the Anvita Khammam Aces. The opening ceremony at the Uppal stadium will feature a live concert by popular music director Thaman. Spectators can purchase tickets at stadium counters and via an upcoming online app, with gate fees priced nominally at Rs 50 and Rs 100 for different seating categories.
The tournament offers substantial financial rewards, with the winning team set to receive Rs 1 crore. The runners-up will take home Rs 50 lakh, while the third and fourth-placed teams will each receive Rs 25 lakh. According to the franchise owners, their primary objective in participating in the league is to promote young sporting talent from the districts of Telangana rather than focusing on financial gains.
