An MBBS student at KEM Hospital and Medical College in Mumbai has been advised to undergo professional psychological counselling to prevent the onset of depression after she broke down and cried continuously during an official inquiry. The student, Sejal Pawar, was being questioned over a controversial viral video.

During the preliminary inquiry, hospital officials noted that Pawar became highly emotional, cried continuously, and expressed regret in her statement. Considering the impact of the controversy on her mental health, the institution advised her to seek counselling to prevent severe psychological stress.

The development follows KEM Hospital's decision to place Pawar on a 15-day forced leave. She has been barred from entering the hospital campus, medical college, and hostel premises. As an interim measure, Pawar has been handed over to her family and will not be allowed to participate in academic or college-related activities during this period.

According to the institution, this decision was taken to ensure her safety and well-being amid intense public scrutiny and reactions on social media. The preliminary inquiry confirmed that Pawar was the person in the viral video, and officials deemed the remarks attributed to her as inappropriate and unacceptable.

KEM Hospital and Medical College has also recommended a five-member committee to conduct a detailed probe into the incident. The panel will include a retired senior professor, a senior journalist, and three faculty members. The committee is scheduled to examine the video, verify the facts, and submit a report within seven days to determine further action.

The controversy erupted after a video clip from a stand-up comedy show showed Pawar making derogatory comments about medical cadavers and deceased male bodies used for educational purposes. Following widespread outrage, Pawar issued an apology. KEM Hospital Dean Pathak previously stated that the remarks were highly unacceptable, emphasizing the importance of respecting body donors who contribute to medical education.
