Kondapur Records 112.3 mm Rainfall as Heavy Thunderstorms Lash Greater Hyderabad

Heavy thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds lashed several parts of Greater Hyderabad overnight, with Kondapur in Sangareddy district recording the highest rainfall of 112.3 mm. The severe weather, which occurred between Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026, prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to forecast continued rain and thunderstorms across Telangana until June 18.
According to the weather data released by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS), multiple areas under Greater Hyderabad experienced the sudden shift in weather. The average rainfall across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, measured from Saturday evening until 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, was recorded at 4.9 mm.
While Kondapur registered the highest overall rainfall in the region at 112.3 mm, Rajendranagar in Rangareddy district recorded the highest rainfall within the Hyderabad district boundaries, measuring 21.1 mm.
Several other prominent localities across Greater Hyderabad also witnessed substantial rainfall during the overnight storm. Among the affected areas were Barkas, BHEL, Lingampally, Gachibowli, Chandanagar, Patancheru, RC Puram, Golconda, HCU Serlingampally, Attapur, and Khajaguda.
In addition to the rainfall data, the TSDPS reported on the temperature conditions in the city. The highest maximum temperature in Hyderabad was recorded at Patigadda, where temperatures reached 37.6 degrees Celsius.
The IMD Hyderabad has forecast that similar weather conditions are expected to prevail across the state of Telangana until June 18. According to the weather agency, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana.
The weather department's forecast also indicated that there will be no large change in maximum temperatures during the next two days. However, residents should prepare for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, which are likely to occur at isolated places across Telangana.
