On June 10, 2026, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao blamed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress government for the widespread disruption and chaos caused by heavy rainfall in Hyderabad.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Rama Rao held the Chief Minister, who also holds the Municipal Administration portfolio, responsible for the administrative failure and poor preparedness during the season's first major rainfall on Tuesday evening.

The heavy rainfall left many commuters, particularly women returning home from work, stranded on the roads for nearly four hours as traffic came to a complete standstill across several parts of the city.

Rama Rao criticized the Chief Minister for openly acknowledging the city's vulnerability to rains instead of fulfilling his administrative duties. He stated that the Congress government had abandoned the practice of taking preventive pre-monsoon measures, which was a standard procedure under the previous BRS administration.

According to the BRS working president, there had been no serious reviews of Hyderabad’s preparedness under the current administration, nor were there visible efforts to clean clogged drains and stormwater channels. This lack of planning resulted in severe waterlogging and traffic congestion after a relatively short spell of rain.

Rama Rao also accused the government of reversing the progress made through key urban infrastructure initiatives, specifically the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) and the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), which were implemented during the previous BRS regime to reduce flooding.

Additionally, the BRS leader raised concerns over reported power outages and deaths due to electrocution during the rains, accusing the government of showing indifference to public suffering.

Warning of political consequences, Rama Rao stated that the residents of Hyderabad were ready to teach a lesson to the Chief Minister and the Congress party in the upcoming municipal elections for their callousness.
