On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Minister Ganesh Naik chaired a high-level meeting at the Cidco Exhibition Centre in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, to address the ongoing electricity shortage and water-related issues in the city. Naik directed Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) officials to take immediate steps to stabilise the power supply following widespread public protests over unscheduled outages.

The meeting was attended by Navi Mumbai mayor Sujata Patil, deputy mayor Dashrath Bhagat, house chief Sagar Naik, and municipal commissioner Kailas Shinde. MSEDCL superintendent engineer D R Patil, alongside senior municipal office bearers and other public representatives, was also present to address the mounting crisis.

During the discussions, public representatives highlighted that Navi Mumbai residents have been facing frequent power cuts since the onset of summer, forcing many to endure sleepless nights. Representatives pointed out that MSEDCL currently lacks the necessary electrical equipment and cables required to carry out essential repair works.

In response, Minister Naik ordered MSEDCL to immediately arrange the required manpower and electrical materials to ensure a regular power supply. He also instructed officials to register police complaints against individuals who illegally take electricity cables through hooliganism. Naik assured the officials that the state government would release funds for MSEDCL if necessary.

MSEDCL superintendent engineer D R Patil explained that electricity demand in Navi Mumbai has risen by 30% due to the increasing summer heat. This surge has led to more frequent breakdowns, particularly on low-tension (LT) lines, resulting in power interruptions.

To resolve the issues, Patil announced that the company has increased its electrical workforce and that 10 kilometres of new cable will be delivered to Navi Mumbai shortly. He added that the Rabale substation will begin operations soon, which is expected to help stabilise the power grid.

Additionally, addressing citizen complaints that Mahavitaran officials often fail to answer phone calls during outages, Patil announced that a new local complaint registration centre will be set up to improve communication with residents.
