MLA Sanjay Upadhyay Demands Borivli Station Reconstruction and More AC Local Trains

Mumbai MLA Sanjay Upadhyay has demanded the reconstruction of the Borivli railway station and the introduction of more air-conditioned (AC) local trains to Churchgate. The city legislator raised these demands in a formal letter written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, seeking urgent intervention to upgrade the suburban rail infrastructure.
In his communication to the railway minister, Upadhyay insisted that the process for the complete reconstruction of the Borivli railway station must be initiated as soon as possible. The station serves as a major transit point for suburban commuters in Mumbai.
Beyond the physical overhaul of the station, the MLA focused heavily on improving the daily commute for passengers traveling between Borivli and Churchgate. He requested a substantial increase in the frequency of AC local trains operating along this busy corridor.
Upadhyay also addressed the current state of the Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services that run between Dahanu Road, Virar, and Borivli. He strongly urged the railway ministry to phase out these older services and introduce new local trains in their place.
Detailing the issues faced by passengers on the MEMU trains, Upadhyay noted that there is a great deal of uncleanliness inside the carriages. He further explained that because these trains utilize older rakes, they suffer from poor lighting and insufficient ventilation.
To address these grievances, the MLA proposed that the newly introduced services should feature a combination of both AC and non-AC coaches. Upadhyay stated that if trains are introduced on the lines of new locals, suburban passengers will get access to far better facilities during their journeys.
The proposed changes could lead to the modernization of the Borivli station and significantly improved, air-conditioned rail transit options for daily commuters traveling to Churchgate.
