Mylapore Private Schools Reluctant to Display Fee Details Despite Government Orders

Private schools across Chennai, including in the Mylapore locality, are showing a strong reluctance to display their fee details on notice boards despite clear directives from government authorities and the state information commission. This ongoing defiance has left local parents in Chennai facing a significant lack of transparency regarding school fee structures.
The state information commission issued an official directive nearly two weeks ago ordering private schools to make their fees public. This order was followed a week later by a similar mandate from the state's school education department. Both directives explicitly required private educational institutions to display their fee structures prominently on notice boards for public viewing.
However, compliance with these regulatory orders remains highly patchy. On-site visits to various Chennai city schools on Tuesday and Wednesday revealed that multiple institutions have failed to follow the directives. These visits coincided with chief and district education officials sharing an official compliance report on the situation with the private schools director.
During these school visits, it was observed that several institutions had either not displayed the fee information at all or only shared the details when they were specifically asked by visitors.
One such instance of patchy compliance occurred at Sri Sivaswami Kalalaya Matriculation School, located in the Mylapore neighborhood. When visited, staff members at the school initially claimed to have the fee details, yet the institution had not posted them publicly on the notice board as required by the state authorities.
As private schools continue to defy these official regulatory directives, parents in Chennai are left without a reliable and transparent way to verify school fee structures. Government authorities and the information panel had intended for the public notice board displays to resolve these transparency issues.
