Netflix Demands Rs 22 Crore Refund From Hyderabad Producer Over Stalled Film

Netflix representatives have issued an ultimatum to an unnamed Hyderabad-based film producer, demanding either the immediate completion of a stalled original project or a full refund of Rs 22 crore.
The dispute came to light on June 11, 2026, after Netflix representatives made an unannounced visit to Hyderabad to inspect the progress of the film. The streaming giant's officials discovered that the producer had lied about the project's active shooting status.
According to industry sources, the producer had secured approximately Rs 22 crore from the streaming platform after pitching the project as a Netflix Original. The project features a young lead actor and a director who had previously collaborated on a highly successful project for a different over-the-top (OTT) platform during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conflict began when Netflix executives requested to view the current footage of the film. Upon reviewing the material, the representatives grew suspicious about the actual progress of the movie and questioned the producer regarding the remaining shooting schedule.
In response, the producer provided a specific date, claiming that a new filming schedule would commence on that day. Hoping to catch the production in action, the Netflix representatives traveled to Hyderabad on the designated date. However, they arrived to find that no shooting was taking place.
Looking for answers, the representatives met the film's director at a Hyderabad coffee shop. The director confirmed that filming had been stalled for some time. Furthermore, the director revealed that the young lead actor had grown tired of waiting and had already moved on to another film project.
Faced with the deception, the Netflix team issued a strict ultimatum to the producer: either complete the film immediately or refund the entire Rs 22 crore. The producer is now reportedly chasing the lead actor to secure filming dates and salvage the project.
