Punjagutta Police Officer Duped of Rs 50000 in Fake RTA Challan Cyber Fraud

An Assistant Sub-Inspector posted at the Punjagutta police station in Hyderabad was defrauded of nearly Rs 50,000 after downloading a fake Road Transport Authority (RTA) challan application file sent by cyber criminals. The theft was discovered after the officer noticed unauthorized transactions from his bank account.
According to officials, the police officer received a fake RTA challan APK file sent by unidentified cyber fraudsters. After the file was downloaded onto his phone, the officer began noticing multiple unusual alerts on his mobile device on June 8.
Upon reviewing these phone alerts and checking his financial records, the officer realized that unauthorized transactions had been executed from his bank account. The fraudulent activity resulted in a total financial loss of nearly Rs 50,000.
Following the incident, the Assistant Sub-Inspector immediately reported the matter to the national cybercrime helpline number 1930. Based on the complaint, the cybercrime police have registered a case and have launched an investigation to trace the fraudsters.
In response to the case, police officials have issued an advisory to the public. Citizens are strongly advised not to download any APK files or click on suspicious links received on their phones, especially those disguised as traffic challan notifications or other official government services.
