Rain and strong winds hit Delhi on Monday, bringing much-needed respite from the heat, with Palam recording the highest rainfall in the region at 9.0 mm. Other areas across the city, including Ayanagar, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, and the Ridge, also registered varying weather conditions as temperatures dipped slightly, forcing commuters to navigate wet roads during the day.

According to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the precipitation recorded till 5:30 p.m. on Monday varied significantly across different local stations. While Palam led with 9.0 mm of rain, Ayanagar recorded 4.6 mm. Meanwhile, the Safdarjung and Lodi Road stations logged trace amounts of rain, and the Ridge observatory recorded no measurable precipitation during the same period.

The rainfall led to a marginal drop in daytime temperatures, keeping them largely near normal. Safdarjung, the city’s base station, recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius, which is one notch below normal. Palam also logged a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Elsewhere in the city, Lodi Road and Ayanagar registered maximum temperatures of 37.8 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively. The highest maximum temperature among all stations was recorded at the Ridge observatory, which reached 38.8 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD data.

Weather officials noted that the 24-hour change in maximum temperatures remained marginally negative across most stations, indicating a slight cooling effect due to the sudden rain.

Minimum temperatures also varied across the capital. Safdarjung logged a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, which is 0.7 notches above normal. In contrast, Palam recorded a lower minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius. Lodi Road and Ridge stations registered minimum temperatures of 26 degrees Celsius and 25.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, while Ayanagar recorded a minimum of 26.6 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has forecast thunderstorms with rain to continue on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to remain in a similar range.
