On Friday, June 12, 2026, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) general secretary RS Praveen Kumar raised serious concerns over the rise in crimes against minors in Telangana and questioned the state government's handling of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases during a press conference at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Kumar criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home portfolio, over what he described as a deteriorating law and order situation in the state under the current Congress regime.

During his address to media representatives, the BRS leader appreciated the police for their swift action in registering a case and arresting the accused within a single day in a recent POCSO case reported in Khammam. However, he raised sharp questions regarding the lack of progress in the Pet Basheerabad case.

Kumar questioned why the investigation in the Pet Basheerabad case had not moved beyond the arrest of just one accused, despite nearly a month having passed since the incident. He demanded that Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BJP leader Sangappa also be questioned in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Furthermore, the BRS general secretary questioned why Women and Child Welfare Minister D Seethakka had not visited the victim in the Khammam case.

To address the rising safety concerns, Kumar called on the state government to implement stronger preventive measures. He urged the administration to create greater awareness among children and parents about POCSO offences, including education on good touch and bad touch. He also suggested giving wide publicity to child safety helplines, specifically Childline 1098 and the Women Helpline 181.

Addressing families directly, the BRS leader appealed to parents to remain vigilant, pointing out that a majority of POCSO offences involve individuals who are already known to the victims.

Kumar concluded by stating that a future BRS government would focus on child safety by strengthening fast-track courts, ensuring stricter action against offenders, and introducing self-defence training programs for children.
