Security was tightened at the Mumbai airport in the Sahar locality after the facility received a hoax bomb threat via email on Saturday. On June 14, 2026, the Sahar police registered a non-cognisable offence against the unidentified sender of the email following a thorough search of the premises and the surrounding area by a bomb detection squad.

A police officer stated that the threat email, which was sent using a virtual private network (VPN) to avoid detection, claimed to be from an unidentified terrorist group. The email alleged that an explosive device had been planted inside the airport premises and was set to detonate shortly.

The email sender further asserted that the Mumbai airport was merely the first of many targets, warning that the group intended to "strike everywhere and anywhere." The message contained the threat, "You will soon discover the true potential of our terror."

In an unusual detail, the threat email concluded with the sign-off phrase, "Hail Swat terror X Swat Kats." Investigators noted that "Swat Kats" refers to a popular animated television series from the 1990s.

In response to the email, a bomb detection squad was deployed to conduct a comprehensive sweep of the airport. After a detailed search of the entire premises and its immediate vicinity, authorities declared the threat to be a hoax.

Following the incident, security officials convened an emergency meeting to review safety protocols. Instructions were issued for personnel to remain highly vigilant and to conduct rigorous anti-sabotage checks throughout the airport.

Although the threat was determined to be fake, police officials confirmed that an alert has been declared at the airport. Security personnel are maintaining a close watch to prevent any untoward incidents, and anti-sabotage operations are continuing across the facility.
