Tamil Nadu to move property registration online within six months

The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to transition the majority of the property registration process online within the next six months. Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration D. Logesh Tamilselvan announced the proposal in Chennai on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The upcoming system aims to simplify the property registration process for citizens across the state. Once the transition is complete, members of the public will only need to visit their local Sub-Registrar Office for the final authentication stage of the registration.
According to Minister Tamilselvan, the proposed digital system will allow users to complete almost all preparatory steps online. This includes entering all relevant details required for the registration of properties, as well as making the necessary registration fee payments through the online system.
"This proposal is on the cards. We are chalking out a plan on how to implement this system," Minister Tamilselvan said. He added that the primary objectives of the initiative are to eliminate corruption and to address the issue of overcrowding at Sub-Registrar Offices.
The government is currently drafting the details of the proposal and working on a plan to implement the system. The transition is expected to be fully rolled out within six months.
