Thieves in Poonamallee and Kattupakkam have been taking advantage of recurring night-time power cuts to steal parked motorcycles under the cover of darkness. The targeted thefts have raised security concerns among residents in these Chennai neighbourhoods, prompting the local police to launch an investigation.

The pattern of the thefts was revealed after a resident named Sarath Kumar, who lives in the nearby locality of Ayyappanthangal, found his high-end motorcycle missing from outside his residence.

Following the discovery, Kumar reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The security footage showed visuals of unidentified men riding through the local streets. The men appeared to be scouting houses where motorcycles were parked.

According to the footage, the suspects later returned to the targeted location during a power outage. Utilizing the darkness caused by the power cut, they successfully fled with the parked motorcycle.

Similar incidents of motorcycle theft have also been reported from other nearby localities in the area. These recurring thefts during power outages have raised fear among local residents regarding the safety of their vehicles.

Based on the CCTV footage provided, the Poonamallee police have registered a case. Police officials are currently investigating the matter to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in these thefts.
