The Ghaziabad Police have arrested three individuals, including a showroom employee, his father, and his girlfriend, for allegedly stealing gold jewellery and cash worth over Rs 3 crore from a Tanishq showroom in Kavi Nagar, Ghaziabad. The arrests of Nitin Verma, 24, his father Sanjay Verma, 52, and his girlfriend Kajal, were made on June 16 following a detailed investigation into the June 12 heist.

According to the police, Nitin Verma, an employee at the showroom, masterminded the theft. On the night of June 11, Nitin hosted a pre-wedding party for his colleagues under the pretext of celebrating his upcoming marriage. During the gathering, Nitin allegedly ensured that the showroom's cashier, who was in possession of the keys, consumed excessive alcohol.

While dropping the intoxicated cashier home, Nitin allegedly stole the showroom keys from the cashier's bag.

At 7:00 AM the following morning, June 12, Nitin and an accomplice identified as Chintu, alias Chitranjan, arrived at the Kavi Nagar showroom. Nitin wore his employee uniform to avoid raising suspicion. While Chintu stood guard outside, Nitin used the stolen keys to enter the premises and steal a large quantity of gold jewellery and cash.

The theft was discovered later that day, prompting showroom representative Rohit Arora to file a police complaint.

A special investigation involving five police teams was launched to track down the suspects. Using CCTV footage, local intelligence, and informant networks, the Kavi Nagar Police and the City Zone SWAT Team tracked the accused. Nitin, Kajal, and Sanjay Verma were arrested from the Sai Gate area of Chiranjeev Vihar on June 16.

DCP Dhawal Jaiswal stated that Nitin confessed to planning the heist after being tempted by the large inventory of gold jewellery at the showroom. He conspired with his father, Kajal, and two other associates to execute the plan and later divide the stolen goods.

Following the arrests, police recovered approximately 2 kg of gold jewellery valued at around Rs 3.10 crore, Rs 6.5 lakh in cash, a 12-bore country-made pistol, and six live cartridges. Some stolen jewellery had already been sold, and police recovered the cash proceeds from those sales.

The Ghaziabad Police have announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the team that cracked the case. Efforts are still underway to locate and apprehend Chintu and the other remaining suspects involved in the conspiracy.
