Three people were killed and six others were rescued after a massive fire broke out at a residential building in the Tughlaqabad Extension area of South Delhi early Friday morning, June 12, 2026.

The incident occurred in a multi-storey building situated in Gali No. 1 near Naya Tara Apartment on Madhyam Marg, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Okhla Fire Station-I.

According to Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials, the department received multiple emergency calls reporting the fire and trapped residents between 2:35 am and 2:37 am.

In response to the urgent calls, the DFS initially deployed three water tenders, two water bowsers, a breathing support unit, and a Quick Response Vehicle to the site. As more distress calls continued to come in, authorities dispatched an additional water tender and light fire unit to assist.

DFS Assistant Divisional Officer Yashwant Singh Meena stated that the residential structure consists of a ground floor and five upper storeys. He noted that the building's location in a narrow lane posed significant challenges, making firefighting and rescue operations more difficult for the teams.

Initial findings indicated that the blaze originated in vehicles parked inside the premises. The fire quickly spread, leaving several two-wheelers charred and trapping residents inside the upper floors. Firefighters immediately initiated rescue efforts upon arrival.

By 3:45 am, officials reported that the fire had been successfully brought under control. The DFS issued an official stop message at 4:00 am, signaling the end of the firefighting operations, although rescue efforts remained underway.

Rescue teams, with assistance from the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS), managed to pull six people out of the burning building. The rescued residents were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The fatal incident occurred just days after another devastating fire at a bed and breakfast killed 23 people in South Delhi.
