Udhayanidhi Stalin Warns of Protests Over Child's Murder near Gummidipoondi
On Monday, Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin strongly condemned the sexual assault and murder of a three-year-old girl near Gummidipoondi. Stalin warned that his party would launch statewide street protests across Tamil Nadu if the government fails to address the deteriorating law and order situation.
Addressing the tragic incident, Stalin demanded that the police immediately identify the real culprits behind the crime and ensure they receive stringent punishment. The three-year-old victim was sexually assaulted and her body was subsequently abandoned in a bush near Gummidipoondi, an incident that has sparked widespread shock and outrage.
Stalin expressed deep grief over the child's death and described the incident as a clear indicator of the failing security measures in the state. He accused the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of failing to protect the most vulnerable citizens, specifically women and children.
In a sharp critique of the administration, Stalin referred to the current government as a "Sofa Model govt." He remarked that crimes of this nature, which citizens once read about as happening in distant northern regions of the country, have now become a daily occurrence within Tamil Nadu.
Furthermore, the opposition leader accused Chief Minister Vijay of political opportunism. Stalin stated that the chief minister had previously used children as a campaign tool to secure votes during the elections, but is now repeatedly failing to guarantee their basic safety and security.
To support his allegations of a broader breakdown in law and order, Stalin cited other recent security failures in the state. Among these, he highlighted the alleged sexual harassment of more than 50 women in Salem by an individual reportedly linked to the ruling party.
The rising political tension comes amid warnings of widespread street protests, as the opposition demands swift justice for the young victim and accountability from the state leadership.
